Marine Buffer™ is expertly formulated to safely raise marine aquarium pH to a stable 8.3, ensuring an optimal environment for saltwater fish and reef systems. Unlike simple sodium bicarbonate or sodium carbonate substitutes, this blended product incorporates a balanced mix of sodium, magnesium, calcium, strontium, and potassium salts of carbonate, bicarbonate, chloride, sulfate, and borate. This unique composition prevents pH from exceeding 8.3, even if overdosed, protecting your marine life from harmful fluctuations.
For accurate monitoring, use Seachem’s MultiTest: Marine pH & Alkalinity™ to regularly check pH and total alkalinity levels. To maintain essential trace elements that support healthy, thriving saltwater fish, pair with Marine Trace™.
Directions: Add 5 g (approximately 1 level teaspoon) per 80 L (20 gallons) of aquarium water, dissolving it first in at least one cup of freshwater. This dosage increases alkalinity by about 1 meq/L and should be added daily until the pH stabilizes at 8.3, which can take from one day up to a week depending on initial water conditions. After stabilization, dosing biweekly or monthly helps maintain consistent pH levels.
If Marine Buffer™ causes significant precipitate that does not dissolve within about 15 minutes, this indicates poor ionic balance in the water. In such cases, perform a water change before continuing use. Marine Buffer™ generates minimal cloudiness or precipitate when used in ionically balanced marine water, and its effectiveness improves with continued application. Avoid mixing directly with calcium, magnesium, or strontium supplements to maintain optimal performance.
Marine Buffer™ is an essential conditioning product for maintaining the delicate chemical balance required in reef and marine aquariums, promoting a healthy and stable environment for your aquatic inhabitants.
