EcoTech VorTech MP Series Setup Guide: Installation & Flow Programming

The EcoTech VorTech pump series (MP10, MP40, MP60) is one of the most advanced wave-making systems in reef aquatics. With their unique motor-outside-the-tank design, they deliver clean aesthetics, efficient heat management, and exceptional flow patterns. Here’s how to set up your VorTech pump and program it for optimal performance.

What You’ll Need

  • MP10 / MP40 / MP60 Vortech Pump

  • Mobius app or ReefLink

  • Included foam spacer (for thin glass)

  • Power outlet near aquarium

Step 1: Mount the Pump

  1. Align Wet and Dry Sides: Place the wet side (in tank) and dry side (outside) directly opposite each other. Use the alignment tool provided.

  2. Use Spacer if Necessary: For glass <12mm, insert foam spacer between the dry side and the tank.

  3. Check for Vibration: Ensure alignment is snug but not too tight. Minor vibration is normal but excess noise may indicate misalignment.

Step 2: Connect to Mobius

  1. Power On the Pump

  2. Open Mobius App > Add Device > Select Your Pump

  3. Pair via Bluetooth

  4. Group with Other Devices (if applicable)

Step 3: Choose a Flow Mode

  • Reef Crest Mode: Simulates high-energy natural reef surges. Best for SPS tanks.

  • Lagoon Mode: Gentle flow for soft and LPS corals.

  • Gyre Mode: Circular flow that mimics tidal current.

  • Tidal Swell Mode: Gradually increasing/decreasing wave action.

Tips & Maintenance

  • Clean Wet Side Monthly to prevent calcium build-up.

  • Back Up Settings in Mobius cloud.

  • Use Feed Mode for 10-minute flow pause during feeding.
