Red Sea Reefer G2 Aquariums

Red Sea Reefer G2 Aquariums - Charterhouse Aquatics
It feels like the Red Sea Reefer has been around forever now, with its tank, sump and cabinet combo setting a standard for how most aquarium sets are now sold.

The flexibility this offers hobbyists has been a HUGE hit, but as time has past, valued features have been added, such as adjustable sump baffles, filter socks and cups and adjustable feet. Couple this with the need to incorporate the ever growing selection of Red Sea hardware and we finally arrive at this,Red Sea Reefer G2!

A few months back Red Sea announced the release of their newest product, the ReefMat Smart Filter Roller. To run alongside this, Red Sea also announced a set of accessories and tools that would allow you to customise your sump to ensure that your new Roller Filter fit into your sump just perfect. As you can expect, this got us talking, and it was thought that a V4 sump would be announced, replacing the current V3 and allowing easy, fuss free fitting. This is kind of what happened, and more!

So what is different?

Build and Warranty
Let's start with the build. The new G2 will come with thicker glass and a fortified plywood cabinet for betting water resistance and strength. Models from the 625 up will also come with an integrated aluminium support, which coupled with a new 3+2 year warranty from Red Sea should put anyone with reservations of the Reefers safety or longevity at ease.

Sump Design
The Reefer REEF-SPEC sump has always been well thought out, and none of its previous features have been lost. But the G2 focusses on maximum flexibility with adjustable skimmer chamber height, integrated bubble trap, optional refugium compartment and a removable mechanical filtration media section, which you guessed it, means a ReefMat will fit in just perfect, with no need for any DIY.

Plumbing
The Red Sea Reefer plumbing is a subject often debated by our customers, with it being the most common change hobbyists make to to help customise the aquarium to their specific needs. While we are unsure any aquarium will please everyone, the changes Red Sea have made to the G2 plumbing will certainly mean you start off in a very good place.

There is a new, enlarged inlet to the downpipe, ensure its both quiet and easier to regulate, and this is helped along by the BRAND NEW high precision adjustment valve. All pipe are now supplied with quick connection joints (which means no glueing involved) and with extra bulkhead connectors available in both Metric and Imperial sizes, it means that if you are looking to customise the pipe work, your starting point is as easy as it comes.

A purely aesthetic addition is that the pipe work on all G2 models will be red, so if you are someone who likes to colour match your equipment for maximum likes on the 'gram' then red sea have your back!

The final change, which only applies to the 350 models and above, is that there will now be two, side facing return pump outlets, for even better water distribution.
