Have Questions About Fleece Filters?
We have answers. Get quick help for common questions.
What is an Aquarium Fleece Filter?
An Aquarium Fleece Filter is an automatic mechanical filtration system that removes fine particles and debris from your aquarium water. It uses a continuous roll of fine filter fleece, which traps waste and particulates, improving water clarity and reducing the need for manual filter maintenance.
Why should I use a Fleece Filter in my aquarium?
Fleece filters provide several benefits:
• Improved Water Clarity: Removes fine particles and detritus effectively.
• Reduced Nitrate and Phosphate: By physically removing waste before it breaks down.
• Less Maintenance: No more frequent filter sock changes or cleaning sponges.
•Automated Operation: Saves time with its self-advancing fleece roll.
They are ideal for both marine reef aquariums and freshwater tanks.
Is a Fleece Filter suitable for both freshwater and saltwater aquariums?
Yes! Aquarium fleece filters work effectively in freshwater and saltwater aquariums. They are especially popular in reef tanks where maintaining high water clarity and low nutrient levels is critical for coral health.
How often do I need to replace the fleece roll?
Fleece roll lifespan depends on:
• Tank size
• Bioload
•Amount of detritus
On average, a fleece roll can last weeks to several months. Replacement fleece rolls are readily available at Charterhouse Aquatics, and we recommend keeping a spare on hand.
What size Fleece Filter do I need for my aquarium?
The right size depends on your aquarium’s water flow rate, volume, and space available in your sump. Popular models like the ClariSea SK3000 and ReefMat 1200 handle different flow rates and are suited to a variety of tank sizes. If you’re unsure, contact our experts at Charterhouse Aquatics for personalized advice.
Do Fleece Filters remove beneficial bacteria from the water?
No. Fleece filters remove larger debris and particulates but do not significantly impact the beneficial bacteria that live in your biological filtration media. In fact, by removing detritus early, fleece filters can help reduce the overall nutrient load in your system.
How does an Aquarium Fleece Filter work?
Aquarium fleece filters automatically advance a roll of filter fleece as it becomes clogged with debris. As water passes through the fleece, particles are trapped. When the fleece becomes dirty, a sensor triggers the motor to roll a fresh section into place, ensuring continuous filtration without manual intervention.
Which Aquarium Fleece Filters are available at Charterhouse Aquatics?
Charterhouse Aquatics offers a range of high-quality fleece filters, including:
• ClariSea SK Series
• ReefMat by Red Sea
• Theiling Rollermat
• DD The Aquarium Solution Rollermat
These models vary in size and capacity, making them suitable for different tank setups.
How do I install an Aquarium Fleece Filter?
Most fleece filters are easy to install and can be placed directly in the sump of your aquarium system. They often come with adjustable brackets or feet to fit different sump layouts. Detailed installation instructions are included with each unit, and Charterhouse Aquatics offers expert advice and customer support if you need assistance.
Do Aquarium Fleece Filters replace filter socks?
Yes! Fleece filters are an automated alternative to traditional filter socks. They provide better filtration, require less maintenance, and eliminate the hassle of frequently removing and cleaning filter socks.
Are Aquarium Fleece Filters noisy?
No, most fleece filters are designed to operate quietly. Brands like ClariSea and ReefMat prioritize low-noise operation, making them suitable for living rooms or display tanks where silence is important.
How do I maintain an Aquarium Fleece Filter?
Maintenance is simple:
• Replace the fleece roll when it’s used up.
• Check and clean sensors periodically to ensure proper operation.
• Inspect the motor and rollers for smooth movement.
Regular maintenance ensures the system runs efficiently and quietly.
