The uncharged gluconate-complexed calcium is absorbed more efficiently with less physiological effort than ionic calcium alone. This allows for excellent coral and coraline algae growth at total calcium concentrations as low as 380 mg/L, eliminating the need for excessively high calcium levels often recommended by others. Even when used up to four times the recommended maintenance dose, the gluconate polymer does not accumulate or promote undesirable algae growth. Instead, it serves as a beneficial food source for corals, invertebrates, and denitrifying bacteria, supporting natural anaerobic denitrification processes in live rock and substrate.
Additionally, the gluconate polymer enhances the bioavailability and stabilization of calcium, strontium, and magnesium in solution without depleting alkalinity. Concerns about adding organics through complexed calcium are unfounded, as the amount introduced is negligible compared to organics naturally released by reef organisms. The components used, such as lactate or gluconate, are oxidized aldehydes that do not behave like sugars, and polygluconate contains no nitrogen or phosphorus, making algae growth biologically impossible in well-maintained reef systems.
Unlike competing products requiring multi-day interval dosing when combined with carbonate supplements, this calcification formula allows for daily dosing and can be used in conjunction with other reef care products for optimal results.
Directions
Advanced: Test calcium levels and adjust dosing to maintain 380-400 mg/L. Each 5 mL per 70 L raises calcium by approximately 10 mg/L. Do not exceed 15 mL per 70 L per day. Maintain calcium levels as required thereafter.
