The Maculata Rasbora, also known as the Dwarf Spotted Rasbora, is a small, brightly coloured freshwater fish prized for its vibrant red and orange hues with distinct black spots along its body. This nano fish is an excellent choice for planted aquariums, where its colours can truly shine against lush greenery. Due to its peaceful nature, it thrives in a well-maintained, species-specific or community tank with other small, non-aggressive fish.
Origin Native to Southeast Asia, the Maculata Rasbora is primarily found in slow-moving, tannin-rich waters of Malaysia, Sumatra, and Thailand. These habitats are characterised by dense vegetation, leaf litter, and soft, acidic water, which should be replicated in a home aquarium for optimal health and coloration.
Feeding Maculata Rasboras are micro-predators, feeding on small invertebrates, zooplankton, and insect larvae in the wild. In captivity, they readily accept: High-quality micro pellets Live and frozen foods such as daphnia, brine shrimp, and microworms Crushed flake foods For best health and coloration, a varied diet with a focus on small live or frozen foods is recommended.
Tank Mates Due to their tiny size and peaceful nature, Maculata Rasboras should be housed with similarly sized and non-aggressive fish. Suitable tank mates include: Other small Boraras species (e.g., Boraras brigittae) Pygmy Corydoras Small tetras (such as Ember Tetras) Kuhli Loaches Shrimp species like Cherry Shrimp Avoid housing them with large or aggressive fish, as they can easily become stressed or preyed upon.
Aggression Maculata Rasboras are non-aggressive and thrive in a peaceful, well-maintained community. However, they are shoaling fish and should be kept in groups of at least six, with larger groups (10+) being ideal for natural behavior and confidence.
Experience Level Beginner to intermediate. While they are relatively hardy, they require stable water parameters, soft acidic water, and a well-planted tank to thrive. Due to their small size, they are best suited for experienced nano fish keepers who can meet their specific care requirements.
Water Parameters Temperature: 22-28°C (72-82°F) pH: 4.0-6.5 (preferably acidic) Hardness: 1-8 dGH Tank Size: Minimum 10 gallons (best kept in a well-planted setup with tannin-rich water)
The Maculata Rasbora is an excellent choice for aquarists looking to add a splash of colour to a nano or planted tank. With their peaceful temperament, small size, and schooling nature, they create a dynamic and beautiful display when kept in proper conditions. A well-maintained tank with soft, acidic water, live plants, and appropriate tank mates will ensure these tiny fish thrive for years to come.

Nice searchable website, plenty of stock, reasonably priced next day delivery, well packaged. Slightly more detail would have been nice as I bought 32mm thinking that was the external diameter but I suspect most people buying these items would know that. :)
