Nitrate & Phosphate “remover”

For bacteria and other microscopic organisms to assimilate Nitrogen and Phosphorus, Carbon must be available in adequate amounts.

With the rise of advanced filtration systems, many low and ultra-low nutrient aquariums experience carbon depletion. This limits efficient biological filtration, causing nutrients like NO3 and PO4 to accumulate as pollutants unless supplemented appropriately.

Z-CarboPlus provides a natural, biologically safe carbon source that enhances microbial growth and reproduction, improving biological filtration. It enables microscopic plankton and bacteria to consume Nitrate and Phosphate effectively. These beneficial bacteria can then be removed via mechanical filtration or serve as nutrition for aquarium inhabitants such as sponges, corals, clams, and tunicates.

Unlike flammable alternatives like ethanol or vodka, Z-CarboPlus offers a safe and efficient carbon supplementation method.

For optimal results, begin dosing at 1ml per 100 liters daily, increasing up to 3ml per 100 liters as needed. Regularly measure NO3 and PO4 levels using reliable test kits. When present in the ideal ratio (C 106:N 16:P 1), these nutrients should decrease toward target levels, ideally reaching near 0ppm if no other interventions occur.

Once desired nutrient levels are achieved (approximately NO3 ~5ppm and PO4 ~0.04ppm), reduce dosing to maintain balance and prevent nutrient depletion.

If either NO3 or PO4 approaches 0ppm while the other remains elevated, your system may be limited by the depleted nutrient. In this case, supplement with additional nitrogen or phosphorus sources to restore optimal biological filtration.

For systems aiming for “heavy nutrient in and heavy nutrient out,” sustained maximum dosing of Z-CarboPlus may be necessary, along with complementary nitrogen and phosphorus supplementation to maintain nutrient balance.
