Acid Buffer is a specialized non-phosphate buffer formulated to safely lower pH and maintain stable water chemistry when used in conjunction with Alkaline Buffer. Ideal for planted aquariums and very hard water environments, this buffer helps prevent common issues associated with phosphate buffers, such as algae growth and water cloudiness. It effectively lowers pH and provides buffering capacity between 5.0 and 8.0, making it suitable for both freshwater and marine applications.
As Acid Buffer reduces pH, it converts carbonate alkalinity (KH) into available CO2, supporting healthy aquatic plant growth by enhancing carbon availability. This conversion also aids in maintaining balanced alkalinity levels, crucial for stable aquarium conditions. For best results, Acid Buffer should be added directly to the aquarium water.
Directions: To lower pH, add 2 g (approximately 1/4 teaspoon) per 80 L (20 gallons) daily until the desired pH is reached. This dosage typically lowers alkalinity by about 0.2 meq/L (0.6 dKH). In soft or poorly buffered water, it is recommended to use Acid Buffer together with Alkaline Buffer to ensure optimal stability. Larger doses may be necessary in very hard, alkaline waters.
When preparing water changes with reverse osmosis (RO) or deionized (DI) water, use Acid Buffer and Alkaline Buffer at a fixed ratio (refer to product guidelines) to establish the target pH before adding water to the aquarium. Adding the buffered water promptly helps prevent pH fluctuations, ensuring a stable environment for aquatic life. For precise adjustments, base the ratio on the weight of the products used.
