Tropic Marin® Phos-Start is based on the nutrient supply mechanisms found in the natural environment of coral reefs. Insoluble, particulate excretions from fish or plankton supply the corals with phosphate and all other necessary substances responsible for healthy microbiology, vigorous coral growth, and vibrant colors. Tropic Marin® has incorporated this knowledge into an innovative product for setting up reef aquariums.

Tropic Marin® Phos-Start can be used to set up all types of saltwater aquariums, but is particularly well-suited for reef aquariums with dead rock or reef ceramics and for reef aquariums without substrate. These aquariums have a limited supply of organic bacterial food and nutrients to stimulate the growth of bacteria and coral algae. Tropic Marin® Phos-Start fills the nutrient and mineral gap in these aquariums and promotes healthy coral algae growth. It also prepares the aquarium for keeping and growing corals, including the most delicate SPS corals.

The microbiome is supplied with vital particulate phosphate, as well as bacterial nutrients, calcium, and trace elements in the form of fine particles. The nutrients are precisely dosed to prevent an undesirable increase in nutrient levels in the water column. Later, in the young aquarium, these particles can be easily filtered from the water and utilized by the corals, leading to enhanced coral growth with natural skeletal structures and vibrant colors, just like in a thriving coral reef under natural conditions.

  • For use during the first 2 to 3 months during the break-in period and in young aquariums.

  • Tropic Marin® Phos-Start contains natural marine biopolymers as bacterial food to stimulate the microbiome in the start-up phase of the new saltwater aquarium.

  • Calcium and trace elements stimulate and support the growth of coralline algae.

  • The halogen trace elements contained, such as iodide, fluoride and bromide, replace elements that are consumed by the increased growth rate of corals and coralline algae.

  • Recent studies show that the insoluble, particulate form of these components is much more efficient for the coloring, care and growth of corals and coralline algae than soluble liquid forms.

  • Tropic Marin® Phos-Start and Tropic Marin® Phos-Feed are the first products to deliver insoluble, particulate phosphate minerals for the reef aquarium in this natural, targeted form

Ingredients

Natural calcium carbonate microparticles, phosphate mineral powder, natural biopolymers, iodide, fluoride and bromide

Application: For use during the first 2 to 3 months of the cycling phase and in young aquariums. Tropic Marin® Phos-Start can be added at any time of day or night. Since the application will slightly cloud the water, and to take advantage of the corals' nocturnal polyp opening, Tropic Marin® Phos-Start should preferably be dosed around the time the lights are turned off. The temporary cloudiness that occurs is normal. After the cloudiness subsides, the water will be exceptionally clear.

Fill a container halfway with approximately 200 ml of water from the reef aquarium (reverse osmosis water is not suitable!) and add the calculated amount of Tropic Marin® Phos-Start . Mix the powder and water thoroughly by stirring. Pour the suspension into the aquarium's current and rinse the container with aquarium water.

Dosage: Begin with a daily dose of 1 ml (small measuring spoon) of Tropic Marin® Phos-Start per 400 l of aquarium water. If, after four weeks, a phosphate concentration between 0.05 ppm and 0.15 ppm has not been reached in the aquarium, double the dosage to 2 ml (large measuring spoon) per 400 l.

We recommend not exceeding a maximum dosage of 4 ml per 400 l.

Note: A temporary increase in algae growth is a normal part of a functioning start-up phase in saltwater aquariums. This should not be a cause for concern. An initial, temporary brownish discoloration of the corals indicates the desired nutrient regulation in the aquarium and should also not be a cause for concern.
