Axolotls walk along the bottom, so floor space matters more than height. Every tank here is at least 80cm long and holds 120 litres or more, enough for one or two adults. Pair it with a gentle filter and a cooling fan, and read our axolotl care guide before you set up.
What size tank does an axolotl need?
Allow at least 75 to 90 litres for one adult, plus about 40 litres for each extra axolotl. Choose a long, wide tank of 80cm or more rather than a tall one. Adults reach 20 to 30cm and spend nearly all their time on the bottom.

Axolotl tank FAQs
Do axolotls need a heater?
No. They need cool water between 14 and 18°C, and warm water makes them ill.
Can I keep two axolotls in one tank?
Yes, if they are a similar size and the tank is big enough. A 100cm tank of around 180 litres suits a pair.
Do axolotl tanks need a lid?
Yes. Axolotls occasionally jump, especially when water quality drops.
