Have Questions About Fish Tanks & Aquariums?

We have answers. Get quick help for common questions.

1. What size aquarium should I buy as a beginner?
A tank of around 60 to 120 litres is a good first aquarium. Larger volumes of water are more stable, so temperature and water quality change more slowly, which gives you more room for small mistakes. Very small tanks look easy but need closer attention.
3. Do your aquariums come with a filter, light and heater?
It depends on the model. All-in-one kits include a built-in filter and light, and some include a heater too. Larger display tanks are often sold as the tank and cabinet only, so you can choose your own equipment. Each product page lists exactly what's in the box.
5. How are large aquariums delivered?
Larger aquariums and cabinets are sent on a pallet service, and you choose your delivery day at checkout. Smaller tanks go by courier. The delivery option for each item is shown at checkout before you pay.
7. Is there a difference between an aquarium and a fish tank?
No, they're two names for the same thing. "Aquarium" is more often used for larger or more technical setups, but any of the tanks on this page can be called either.
2. What's the difference between a freshwater and a marine aquarium?
Freshwater tanks keep tropical or coldwater fish and plants, and are simpler and cheaper to run. Marine tanks hold saltwater fish, corals and invertebrates, and need extra equipment such as a protein skimmer, reef lighting and a salinity tester. Many aquariums can be set up either way, so check the listing for what's included.
4. Can I save money on equipment when I buy an aquarium?
Yes. With our Aquarium Builder offer you save 10% on lights, pumps and filters when you buy them together with an aquarium. The discount is applied in your cart.
6. Do I need a cabinet or stand for my fish tank?
Usually, yes. Water weighs about 1kg per litre, so a 120 litre tank weighs well over 120kg once it's filled with water, gravel and decor. A purpose-built aquarium cabinet spreads that weight evenly and keeps the tank level. Many of our tanks are sold as an aquarium and cabinet set, so the two are made to fit.

Good to know

Why are some points pending?

Purchase points have an approval period before they become available. Your balance shows available points separately from pending points.

How long do my points last?

When points expiry applies, your balance stays valid for 365 days from qualifying rewards activity. Earning eligible rewards, redeeming points or a balance adjustment renews that window. Simply visiting the shop does not renew it.

Can I use points with my stamp reward?

Yes. Add your 10% stamp reward code at checkout and switch on your points. Your final saving depends on the eligible product total and any other discount restrictions.

What happens if I return something?

Earned points are adjusted for returns. Points used on refunded products are restored proportionally. If a refund takes a qualifying order below £250, its stamp is removed.
