Why use REEF-SPEC™ Carbon?
In a closed artificial ecosystem, living creatures continually produce organic waste such as proteins, fats, and phenols. If allowed to accumulate, these organics fuel unwanted microorganisms, increase oxygen demand, and reduce light penetration—specifically in the blue and UV spectrum crucial for coral growth. By using adsorption, this carbon removes organic molecules that are too small for even the finest mechanical filters or protein skimmers to catch.

Usage Tips & Best Practices
  • Remove any fines by rinsing carbon under tap water before use.
  • Soak in RO water until all trapped air has been released to prevent floating.
  • Place in a location with an active flow of 1000-1500 lph (250-400 gph) per 50g of carbon.
  • Replace every 1.5 – 2 months for best results.

Usage Guide

  • Organic load & yellow tint removal: Approximately 50g (100 ml) per 200 L (50 gallons) for 1-2 months.
  • Post-medication treatment: Approximately 100g (200 ml) per 200 L (50 gallons) for one week.
  • Ozone post-treatment: 50g per 50mg/hr of ozone injection at the reactor/skimmer outlet.
